Computational Geology 18 Definition and the Concept of Set
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Geology involves measurement, calculation and modeling. Everyone would agree that these are mathematical activities. Geology also involves classification. “In geology we tend to classify everything” (Thomas and Thomas, 2000, p. 571). This observation is certainly borne out by the GeoRef database. On 29 June, 2001, a search under the keyword “classification” brought up 60 papers with publication dates in 2001 and subjects ranging from stratigraphic units (Walsh, 2001) to pyroxenes (Yavuz, 2001). Although we may not think of it as such, classification is a mathematical activity. The mathematics that is relevant to the kind of classification that underpins geologic terminology is included under set theory. The purpose of this and the next column is to illustrate that connection.

A modification of probabilistic hesitant fuzzy sets and its application to multiple criteria decision making
Probabilistic hesitant fuzzy set (PHFS) is a fruitful concept that adds to hesitant fuzzy set (HFS) the term of probability which is able to retain more information than the usual HFS. Here, we demonstrate that the existing definitions of PHFS are not still reasonable, and therefore, we first improve the PHFS definition. By endowing the set and algebraic operations with a new re-definition of P...
متن کاملOptimized computational Afin image algorithm using combination of update coefficients and wavelet packet conversion
Updating Optimal Coefficients and Selected Observations Affine Projection is an effective way to reduce the computational and power consumption of this algorithm in the application of adaptive filters. On the other hand, the calculation of this algorithm can be reduced by using subbands and applying the concept of filtering the Set-Membership in each subband. Considering these concepts, the fir...

The present study examines the role of Gal’perin’s Concept-based Instruction (CBI) as a pedagogical approach in teaching cognitive grammar-based (CG-based) concepts of tense and aspect to EFL students. Following the sociocultural theory of L2 Acquisition (SCT), arming L2 learners with scientific concepts can lead to L2 development by deepening their understanding and raising awareness of L2 str...

A multi-secret sharing scheme (MSS) allows a dealer to share multiple secrets among a set of participants. in such a way a multi-secret sharing scheme (MSS) allows a dealer to share multiple secrets among a set of participants, such that any authorized subset of participants can reconstruct the secrets. Up to now, existing MSSs either require too long shares for participants to be perfect secur...
متن کاملOn generalized fuzzy numbers
This paper first improves Chen and Hsieh’s definition of generalized fuzzy numbers, which makes it the generalization of definition of fuzzy numbers. Secondly, in terms of the generalized fuzzy numbers set, we introduce two different kinds of orders and arithmetic operations and metrics based on the λ-cutting sets or generalized λ-cutting sets, so that the generalized fuzzy numbers are integrat...
